Welcome to the home of the Southern Area
Basketball Officials Association (SABOA). The SABOA serves men
and women officiating all levels of basketball, from Youth to NCAA. We
provide a comprehensive instructional program to prepare individuals
for officiating basketball.
The SABOA's mission includes upholding, encouraging and promoting
high ethical standards amongst institutions, spectators,
participants, coaches and officials involved in the game of
basketball. The SABOA web site (www.saboaonline.com) was established
in 2008 to improve communications between itself, its member
officials, participating schools, suppliers and the community. If
you wish to join our organization, visit the
'Application'
page. An on-line membership form is available and will be sent to
the association secretary.
Some Early Season Observations:
1. Lead officials need to get more depth off the end line. Many
have their feet within 6" on the end line.
2. Trail officials "bailing out" on free throw attempts and field
goal attempts, rather than "closing Down".
3. Center officials "ball watching" in stead of picking up the
competitive matchups off the ball.
4. Lazy officials who don't make an effort to get into the front
court as the "T" during transition, or walk into position as the
"C".
5. Scorekeepers MUST wear a striped shirt during ALL GHSA sanctioned
games.
6. Illegal wristbands - Read Rule 3-5-3(a). No exceptions!
7. Patience on whistles in the "paint". Assume there are multiple
whistles on any call made in the lane area, and delay your hand
signal until you find your partners to see if they also have a
whistle. If so, yield to the "primary".
